Honey is a wonder food that’s used widely in culinary dishes and for other purposes. Honey is also simply use as a sweetener in food and beverages. Historically, honey has been cultivated and used since the ancient times in various civilizations. Egyptians use honey to sweeten cakes and biscuits and also for embalming dead bodies in mummification process. The Romans soldiers use honey simply for treating wounds and scar whenever in a battle. 

Because at that time honey isn’t commonly obtained, its use is reserved for the noblemen and upper class of the society. These ancient civilizations used honey because of its properties and over the years scientists have discovered other properties that can benefit us for various purposes and nowadays we can purchase honey too.

Honey is used because of its distinct and unique properties. Honey is known for its antibacterial and acts as an antiseptic agent. It’s because the natural condition of high sugar content in honey isn’t suitable for microbes to thrive. Honey also is humectant, which it naturally draws out moisture from air and retains it. This trait is useful in treating open wounds as keeping the skin moist and hydrated while encourage the repairing of the skin. Honey also contains antioxidants that can neutralize harmful chemicals in our body and also protecting the skin from UV rays. Studies have found that the darker the honey, the higher the number of antioxidants it contains.

As this wonder food is widely available you can use honey as part of your skin care routine by using it as one of the main ingredients in making a facial mask. The good thing about honey is you can combine it with other ingredients to be mixed with and you can have your own facial mask recipe. Because of special properties in honey, it also can be mixed with other specific ingredients to treat certain skin conditions. Don’t be turn off thinking it’ll mess your kitchen; the benefits you reap will definitely outweigh the hassle. 

You only need to warm up the organic honey until it becomes liquid in a small glass or metal bowl which is immersed in hot water until its smooth. Apply it equally with a facial mask brush or spatula on your clean face and neck, keeping the eye area clear for about 15 – 20 minutes. Then you wash it off with warm water, end with a splash of cold water and pat dry with a clean towel. Finally apply a moisturizer, this way you "seal" your skin to keep the water inside

As for you who may have dry skin, avocado & honey face mask is the way to go. Prepare 2 tablespoons of avocado flesh, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 egg yolk. Put all the ingredients in a blender, or you can mash the mixture by hand in a bowl. Use your fingers to spread the mask over your face and neck and leave it on for at least 30 minutes, preferably longer, before removing it.

Mix half tablespoon of raw honey (filter it first), with half a banana, a quarter-cup of cooked oatmeal with a bit of milk, and a whole egg. Apply it on your face if you have a sensitive skin.

For oily skin that are prone to breakouts, use honey for its antibacterial properties. Try apple, sage and honey. You’ll need 2 tablespoons organic honey, 1 apple (cored, unpeeled, and slice into pieces), and 1/2 teaspoon of sage. Puree the apple in a food processor. Add the honey and sage and mix it well until you have a smooth and uniform paste. Cool it down in the fridge for about 20 minutes. Apply it and let it settle for 30minutes, and rinse it.
